Design

'When aesthetics and functionality come together in authentic artistic objects'

Design can be considered as one of the most creative aspects of art, culture and industry of the 20th Century. Authors such as Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé, Pierre Guariche, Serge Mouille, Mies van der Rohe, Max Ingrand, Alvar Aalto, Eero Saarinen, Marcel Breuer, Hans Wegner and Philippe Starck, among many others, are all examples of outstanding creativity and popularity. Though it is true that furniture, ceramics, porcelain, glass, lamps, carpets and even tapestries are materials or objects produced by human creativity during the course of history, in the 20th Century these were still produced, but they turned the previous concepts upside down, seeking a balance between beauty and function, while maintaining their creative purpose. On the other hand, industrial design, with a carefully crafted product design, has boosted the profusion of coveted but accessible objects. Recognition and prestige enjoyed today by design are evidenced through examples of major institutions where it is promoted and studied, such as Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris or Museu del Disseny in Barcelona. In Balclis we have an exclusive department dedicated to design, where we offer quality editions by renowned architects and designers of the 20th Century (specially French, Italian, Swedish, Danish and Finnish), in particular in the field of furniture, but also glass and signature ceramics. BALCLIS also leads the revaluation of Spanish design, from its pioneers from the GATCPAC period to the advanced designers of the 60s and 70s (Alfonso Correa, Miquel Milà...), with a wide range of lamps and furniture that have aroused the interest of individuals, decorators, collectors and even specialised museums. Similarly, designs from the 80s and 90s, with authors such as Óscar Tusquets, Josep Lluscà and Jaume Tresserra, enjoy a significant presence and acceptance. With the aim of being in line with the growing market demand, for both collecting and interior decoration, we work to update our catalogue in order to keep selling classic and current design objects at competitive prices.
